DEVAMISIN

Oral/ Intrauterine Tablet

Veterinarian Oral / Intrauterine Antibacterial Tablet

COMPONENTS

DEVAMISIN Oral/Intrauterine Tablet, pale yellow in color, with a characteristic odor, notched in the middle. It is a long tablet. In each tablet; Contains 500 mg Chlortetracycline hydrochloride.

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

The active ingredient of DEVAMISIN, chlortetracycline hydrochloride, is a broad-spectrum antibacterial from the tetracycline group. Chlortetracycline hydrochloride shows its effect by inhibiting protein synthesis in rapidly growing microorganisms.

Its effect on bacteria is as follows;

It has a positive effect to Gram-positive aerobes (Bacillus sp., Corynebacterium sp., Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae, Listeria monocytogenes and Streptococci), Gram-negative bacteria (Actinobacillus sp., Bordetella sp., Francisella tularensis, Haemophilus sp., Pasteurella multocida, P. haemolytica, Yersinia sp. , Campylobacter fetus, Borrelia sp and Leptospira sp., Moraxella bovis), anaerobes (Actinomyces sp., Fusobacterium sp.) and Mycoplasma sp., Chlamydia sp., Ehrlichia sp., Coxiella burnetti, Theileria, Eperytrozoon and Anaplasmas. Due to acquired resistance, Stapylococci, Enterococci, Enterobacteriaceae family Enterobacter sp., E. coli, Klebsiella sp., Proteus sp., Salmonella sp., Bacteroides sp. from anaerobic bacteria and its effect on Clostridium sp. is variable.

Mycobacterium spp., Proteus vulgaris, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Serratia sp., Mycoplasma bovis and M. hyopneumoniae are considered resistant to tetracyclines.

Although DEVAMISIN is produced for intrauterine use, it is also suitable for oral use, thanks to its ability to dissolve easily in water and distribute easily to tissues and organs. Chlortetracycline hydrochloride taken through the digestive tract is rapidly absorbed partially from the stomach and largely from the first parts of the small intestines, resulting in therapeutic blood flow within 2-4 hours.It reaches its blood density and maximum blood density within 4 – 8 hours. The half-life of the blood serum is 5.5 hours. It accumulates in high concentrations in lung and spleen tissues. Chlortetracycline hydrochloride has a bioavailability of 30%. Approximately 70% of orally administered chlortetracycline is excreted in the stool.

AREA OF USE/INDICATIONS

It is caused by sensitive bacteria intrauterine in cows, mares, sheep and goats in the treatment of the following genital system infections,

– Puerperal genital infections,

– Retention secundinarum,

– Endometritis

– Complications occurring at birth,

– Campylobacter fetal infections,

Additionally, oral administration in calves that have not started rumination,

– Bacterial enteritis

 – It is used in pneumonia.

USAGE AND DOSAGE

Unless it is recommended otherwise by the Veterinarian;

Intrauterine administration: After birth, the required amount of tablets is manually inserted into the uterus. To protect the animal and the veterinarian from various infections during this application it is recommended to use rubber gloves. Treatment of uterine infections in cows and mares 2-4 tablets per day, 1-3 tablets are placed into the uterus for sheep and goats.

Oral administration: DEVAMISIN Tablet, it can be swallow directly or drink fresh every day by dissolving it in water. In severe cases, the daily dose should be divided into three. The rumen activity of the calves to be treated must not have started. It must not be dissolved with milk. Pharmacological dose of chlortetracycline; The oral practical dose is calculated to be 10-20 mg/kg live weight in calves. Accordingly, ½ -1 tablet per day is given orally to calves per 50 kg live weight.

SPECIFIC CLINICAL FACTS AND SPECIAL WARNINGS FOR TARGET SPECIES

It should not be used orally in adult ruminants due to its effect on the rumen microflora.

UNDESIRED/SIDE EFFECTS

Since chlortetracycline causes indigestion and digestive disorders by negatively affecting the normal bacterial flora required for bacterial fermentation in digestion, oral administration is not suitable in adult ruminants. Long-term use causes yellow-gray discoloration on the teeth of young animals. Tetracyclines can also cause sensitivity to light (photosensitization) and allergic reactions.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Ampicillin sodium, amikacin sulfate, penicillin, carbenicillin sodium, chloramphenicol sodium succinate, cloxacillin sodium, meperidine HCl, methicillin sodium, novobiocin sodium, oxacillin sodium, cephalosporins, sulfadiazine, sodium barbiturates, phenytoin, pentobarbital sodium, promethazine, calcium compounds, hydrocortisone sodium succinate , methylprednisolone is incompatible with sodium succinate and B group vitamins. It must not be mixed with solutions that contain calcium. Divalent and trivalent minerals reduce the absorption of tetracyclines from the digestive tract, so they should not be given to calves and lambs with milk. The medicine should be administered at least 2-3 hours before or after breastfeeding. It must not be used with mineral premixes.

SYMPTOMS, PRECAUTIONS AND ANTIDOTE IN OVERDOSE

Chlortetracycline toxicity is low. No further information regarding overdose was available.
