Halocur Oral Solution Veterinary Antiprotozooner
THE COMPONENTS: It is a canary yellow, clear, homogeneous oral solution that contains 0.5 mg Halofuginone in each ml and is miscible with water.
PHARMACOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS: Halofuginone is the active ingredient in this medication, which belongs to the quinazolinone derivative group and functions as an antiprotozoan agent. Halofuginone lactate is a salt with a proven antiprotozoal effect against Cryptosporidium parvum in vitro or artificial and natural infections. The mechanism of action has yet to be fully discovered. The active substance has a cryptosporidiostatic impact on Cryptosporidium parvum. It is especially active during the free period of the parasite (sporozoite, merozoite).In the in vitro test system, the concentration required for 50% and 90% inhibition of the parasite is IC50 < 0.1 μg/ml and IC90 4.5 μg/ml, respectively. After a single oral administration, the bioavailability of the drug in the calf is approximately 80%. The time required to achieve the maximum concentration Tmax is 11 hours. The maximum plasma concentration Cmax is four ng/ml. The distribution volume is 10 lt/kg. Plasma concentrations of Halofuginone after repeated oral administration are comparable to the pharmacokinetics after a single oral administration. Unchanged Halofuginone is the primary content in the tissues. It has been found at very high levels in the liver and kidney. The product is ejected mainly with urine.The final elimination half-life is 11.7 hours after i.v. administration and 30.8 hours after a single oral administration.
AREA OF USE/INDICATIONS:
In newborn calves;
In farms with a history of cryptosporidiosis, the product can be used to prevent diarrhoea caused by Cryptosporidium parvum. The application process should begin within the first 24-48 hours after the calves are born. To reduce diarrhea caused by Cryptosporidium parvum, the application should be made within 24 hours after the diarrhoea begins. It was observed that the expression of oocyte was reduced in both cases.
THE WAY OF USE/DOSAGE: For oral use in calves after feeding. The recommended dosage of Halofuginone base is 100μg (0.1 mg) per kilogram of body weight, administered once daily for a period of 7 consecutive days. For example 2 ml HALOCUR Oral Solution / 10 kg ca / once a day for seven straight days.
As a practical dose:
-35 kg < calf ≤ 45 kg: 8 ml Halocur Oral Solution once for seven consecutive days
-45 kg < calf ≤ 60 kg: 12 ml Halocur Oral Solution once for 7 consecutive days
For weaker or heavier animals, the dose should be calculated precisely (2ml/10kg).A syringe or a device for oral administration must be used to administer the full dose.
The application should be done at the same time every day.
After the first calf is treated, all other newborns should be systematically treated against the risk of diarrhoea due to Cryptosporidium parvum.
