The COMPONENTS: Maxicillin LA is a off-white white cololured Injectable Suspension and contains 100 mg/ml ampicillin anhydride.
PHARMACOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Maxisillin LA Suspension for Injection is an oily suspension for injection containing ampicillin with aluminium stearate, which extends the antibiotic activity to at least 48 hours. Ampicillin is a semi-synthetic, broad-spectrum beta-lactam antibiotic that is effective against Gram-positive bacteria such as streptococci and pneumococci. These staphylococci do not produce penicillinase enzyme, and Gram-negative bacteria such as Salmonella spp., Enterococcus, Proteus mirabilis and Haemophilus parahemoliticus. Most Klebsiella, Proteus, Pseudomonas, Serratia, Citrobacter, Mycoplasma, and Mycobacterium species are resistant to aminopenicillins. Maxicillin LA Suspension for Injection maintains effective blood serum concentrations against ampicillin-sensitive bacteria for at least two days when injected at recommended doses. The drug is distributed to all body parts, especially the liver, lung, prostate, muscle chest cavity and synovial fluids. The drug is excreted unchanged from the body, mainly in the urine and, to some extent in the gall.
MAXISILIN LA ARE OF USE/INDICATIONS:Maxicillin LA Injectable Suspension is used in cattle, sheep, cats and dogs caused by bacteria sensitive to ampicillin. It is used for gastro-intestinal, respiratory, and urinary system infections, septicemia and secondary bacterial infections accompanying viral diseases.Maxicillin LA Injectable Suspension is administered subcutaneously to cats and dogs, and intramuscularly to cattle and sheep. The dosage is adjusted according to age and body weight, generally as 15 mg/kg/day/live weight in adult animals and 25 mg/kg/day/live weight in young animals.
