PİMOXİL LA
Suspension for Injection
Veterinary Systemic Antibacterial
COMPOSITION
Pimoxil LA Suspension for Injection is a white, light yellow, sterile suspension for injection containing Amoxicillin trihydrate equivalent to 150 mg Amoxicillin base in 1 ml.
PHARMCOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Pimoxil LA Suspension for Injection is a broad-spectrum, long-acting formulation with bactericidal action against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria sensitive to amoxicillin. Amoxicillin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis.
The susceptibility of bacteria to amoxicillin is as follows:
Susceptible bacteria: Most Gram-positive bacteria, including beta-hemolytic Streptococcus sp. (Strep. agalactiae, S.canis, S.zooepidemicus, S.dysgalactiae, S.suis, S.uberis, Bacillus anthracis, Actinomyces sp., most Corynebacter sp., Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae, most Listeria monocytogenes), some anaerobes (Clostridium sp., most Fusobacterium sp., some Bacteroides sp.,), some Gram-negative aerobes (Haemophilus somnus), Borrelia sp., Leptospira sp., Actinobacillus sp., Haemophilus sp., Moraxella sp., Pasteurella sp..
Bacteria showing intermediate susceptibility: Although it varies due to acquired immunity, the following bacteria are moderately susceptible: Actinobacillus sp., Borrelia sp., Haemophilus sp., Leptospira sp., Moraxella sp., Pasteurella sp., Proteus sp., Taylorella equigenitalis, Serpulina sp. Resistance development is common in ., Campylobacter sp., Enterococci , Rhodococcus equi, Enterobacteriaceae.
Resistant bacteria: Bacteroides fragilis, Bordetella bronchiseptica, Citrobacter sp., Enterobacter sp., Klebsiella sp., other Proteus sp., Pseudomonas aeroginosa, Serratia sp., Yersinia enterocolitica.
It is absorbed very rapidly after parenteral administration and reaches a peak level in blood serum 1-2 hours later. It quickly spreads to almost all tissues and concentrates especially in the lungs, liver and kidneys. It is poorly bound to serum proteins. Response to treatment is very fast. It passes into the cerebrospinal fluid at a rate of 10-60% of that in the plasma in case of inflammation of the meninges. It is effectively excreted in high concentrations with urine and bile. It does not cause irritation at the injection site.
AREA OF USE/INDICATIONS
Pimoxil LA Suspension for Injection is used in the treatment of digestive system infections, urogenital system infections, respiratory tract infections and other soft tissue infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to amoxicillin in cattle, sheep, dogs and cats. In this context, it is mainly used as a support for local treatment in pneumonia, enteritis, umbilical cord infections, as well as mastitis and metritis.
USAGE AND DOSAGE
Unless recommended otherwise by the veterinarian,
Pharmacological dose: It is administered as a single dose of 15 mg/kg body weight in cattle and sheep only intramuscularly, in dogs and cats subcutaneously and intramuscularly.
Practical dose: It is administered intramuscularly at a dose of 1 ml/10 kg body weight.
Dose chart
Cattle | For 400 kg of body weight | 40 ml |
Calf – heifer | For 200 kg of body weight | 20 ml |
Calf | For 100 kg of body weight | 10 ml |
Sheep | For 50 kg of body weight | 5 ml |
Lamb | For 10 kg of body weight | 1 ml |
Dog | For 20 kg of body weight | 2 ml |
Cat | For 5 kg of body weight | 0.5 ml |
If necessary, the dose can be repeated after 48 hours.
Each drug administration should be administered to a different injection site.
The suspension should be homogenized by shaking the bottle well before use.
When it is necessary to use more than 20 ml for cattle and 5 ml for sheep, it is recommended to divide the total amount and inject into two separate places.
Syringes must be dry to prevent hydrolysis of amoxicillin. When using, asepsis and antisepsis should be followed. It is recommended to massage the injection site after the application.
UNDESIRED EFFECTS
It should also be kept in mind that it can cause side effects such as urticaria, skin lesions, nausea, vomiting, respiratory distress, pulmonary and laryngeal edema, vasomotor central paralysis and coma, as well as allergic and anaphylactic shock, and death in susceptible animals. In case of anaphylactic shock, epinephrine and/or oxygen, intravenous steroids and antihistamines should be administered.
DRUG INTERACTIONS
Amoxicillin alone is a drug with fast and strong bactericidal action. It should not be used together with other antibiotics with bactericidal action such as tetracyclines, macrolides, and phenicols. Uric acid synthesis inhibitors such as allopurinol may increase the risk of skin reactions. In addition, diuretics can reduce the concentration of the antibiotic, as they accelerate the excretion of amoxicillin.
SYMPTOMS OF OVERDOSE, PRECAUTIONS AND ANTIDOTE
Pimoxil LA Suspension for Injection has a wide margin of safety. In the event of severe allergic reactions, treatment should be stopped and corticosteroids and adrenaline administered. In other cases, symptomatic treatment is recommended.
RESIDUAL WARNINGS FOR FOOD PRODUCING ANIMALS
Drug Residue Elimination Period: During the treatment and after the last drug application, cattle and sheep should not be sent to slaughter until 30 days have passed. During the treatment and after the last drug administration, sheep milk obtained for 14 milkings (7 days) and cow milk obtained for 10 milkings (5 days) should not be offered for human consumption. The drug residue clearance time for the injection point is 50 days. It is not recommended to be applied to sheep and cows from which milk is obtained for human consumption due to the long purification time of residues in milk.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
It should not be used intravenously and intratracheally. It should not be used in severe renal disorders with anuria or oliguria. It should not be used in animals with known hypersensitivity to penicillins.
Use in pregnancy: Penicillins are known to cross the placenta. Studies on pregnant laboratory animals have not revealed any adverse effects on the fetus.
